If you own property within the Municipality of Cumberland keep an eye on your mailbox as the 2026-27 tax bills are in the mail.
On March 30, 2026, municipal council approved a $43.2-million operating budget and a $13.3-million capital budget.
The general residential rate remains at $1.17 per $100 assessment and the commercial general rate remains at $2.74 per $100 assessment. Property owners in the former towns of Springhill and Parrsboro also pay area rates in addition to the general rate.
The Springhill and Parrsboro area rate is $0.48 per $100 of assessment for residential and $1.19 per $100 assessment for commercial properties.
The village rate in River Hebert is 10 cents per $100 assessment, while in Pugwash it’s 38 cents per $100 assessment for residential properties and 45 cents per $100 assessment for commercial.
Due date for tax payments is June 30, 2026.
There are several options for payment.
1. In-Person & Drop Boxes
Payments can be made at any of the following service centres between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday:
- The Upper Nappan Service Centre - 1395 Blair Lake Rd. Upper Nappan
- The Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre - 6 Main St., Springhill
- The Parrsboro Service Centre - 209 Main St., Parrsboro (closed for lunch from 12 to 12:30 pm)
- Pugwash Service Centre - 10182 Durham St., Pugwash on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm (closed for lunch from 1 to 1:30 pm)
Drop boxes are available at any time at the Upper Nappan and Parrsboro Service Centres.
2. Mail Cheques
Cheques made out to the Municipality of Cumberland can be mailed to 1395 Blair Lake Road, Upper Nappan, NS B4H 3Y4.
Please write your tax account number on the cheque.
3. Financial Institutions
Payments can be made at most financial institutions via phone or online banking services.
To add the Municipality of the County of Cumberland as a payee, search for Cumberland, select Cumberland Municipal County Tax from the list and use your six-digit tax account number shown on your bill (this number begins with a 6).
Remember to submit payments separately for each tax account number.
4. Pre-authorized Payment
The Municipality of the County of Cumberland accepts pre-authorized payment. Download the forms at https://www.cumberlandcounty.ns.ca/services/forms-and-applications/taxation or call 902-667-2313 to request one to be mailed.
Please provide staff with at least 14 days to complete the request.
5. Credit Card Payments via Paymentus
Credit card payments are available through Paymentus a third-party credit card provider. Paymentus charges a service fee of 3.28% for each transaction.

Be prepared with your tax account number, the amount to be paid and your credit card details. Please note that there is a 3.28 % fee charged by Paymentus for this service.
Paymentus will ask for an 8-digit tax number. Please add 00 in front of your tax account number. For example, if your tax account number is 123456 you would enter 00123456.
