Municipality of Cumberland passes new pets policy

Cumberland municipal council has passed a new pets policy.

The policy establishes guidelines regarding the presence of pets within the service centres and the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre and ensures the safety, health and comfort of employees, council members, committee members and visitors to the buildings.

Exceptions will be made for service animals that are clearly identified, or in the case of the community centre for animals associated with an event taking place on site.

A recent occurrence at the Upper Nappan Service Centre brought to light the need to expand the scope of the current policy to include service centers.

While it has been the general practice to limit animal access to service centres to service animals and there are decals posted stating that only service animals are allowed, there is no policy reinforcing this.

Council approves rezoning of Upper Malagash, Malagash Centre properties

Council approved second reading of the Land Use Bylaw to rezone Highway 6, Upper Malagash from Agriculture (AG) Zone to Country Commercial (CCou) Zone.

The subject property is located on the corner of Highway 6 and Malagash Road is currently zoned Agriculture and is vacant.

The property is in Upper Malagash, a largely residential area that is near the Colchester County municipal boundary and to a Trans-Canada Trail greenway.

The proposed development would consist of three complimentary uses - a takeout restaurant, a small automotive service station and a public restroom.

Council also approved second reading of an amendment to the Land Use By-law to rezone between 148 Blue Sea Rd. and Golden Brook, Malagash Centre, from Agriculture (AG) Zone to Residential Recreation (RRec) Zone.

The property owner is looking to subdivide the subject property to create roughly five lots, each approximately 6,000 square metres in area.

The property is approximately six acres of vacant, wooded land on Blue Sea Road, Malagash Centre.  The community surrounding the property is largely used for residential, recreational and tourism purposes.

Council approves first reading of rezoning Collingwood properties to Commercial Recreation

Cumberland municipal council has approved first reading of a proposal to amend the Land Use Bylaw to rezone nine properties along Wyvern Rd. & Wentworth Collingwood Road from Rural Resource (Rsrc) to Commercial Recreation (CRec) Zone.

A public hearing will be held prior to second reading.

The properties are in Collingwood Corner, running along the Wyvern Rd. and Wentworth Collingwood Road, with many of the subject properties fronting the River Philip. Cumulatively, the properties consist of approximately 3,844.2 acres.

The properties are currently largely zoned Rural Resource (Rsrc) and are not actively used by the property owner, as they remain unmaintained.

The property owner is looking to develop the subject properties to create a golf resort, boasting an 18-hole golf course, approximately 180 residential building lots and 80 Recreational Vehicle parking sites.  The development is also proposing a pro shop and an English-style pub and restaurant.

 

Rezoning of Fox Harbour properties to Commercial Recreation passes first reading

Cumberland municipal council has approved first reading of an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw to rezone four properties adjacent to the Fox Harb’r Resort from Agriculture (AG) to Commercial Recreation (CRec).

A public hearing will be held prior to second reading.

The properties are 239 acres of land that are not currently being used for a specified purpose. With the lands being immediately adjacent to the Fox Harb’r Resort, the current land would not make suitable farmland or reserve farmland.

Fox Harbour Community is a largely commercial recreation area with a heavy tourism industry, with Fox Harb’r Resort making up a very large portion of the community. The current property owner, Fox Harb’r Resort, is looking to expand their development to provide more residential buildings lots and infrastructure to serve their expanded resort amenity offerings.

The proposed expansion to Fox Harb’r Resort would provide infrastructure and amenities to support an existing multi-story residential building on the northeastern portion of the resort’s property.

Supporting infrastructure and amenities would include parking, pools and patios.

The proposed expansion would also include the creation of new roads and the provision of a new service entrance.

The proposed expansion would create a total of 29 new residential building lots. Any land not used as a part of the expansion will be accessible to guests and residents for soft recreational activities such as walking and biking.
