Springhill’s Pit Pond Trail grand opening to be held July 27

The Springhill Communities in Bloom Committee has been working in partnership with multiple levels of government to complete the revitalization of the Pit Pond Trail Project. The trail will create a safe and accessible walking path around the pond with connectivity links to key assets around the community.

The project is nearing its final stages and will be completed in the very near future. Communities in Bloom will be hosting their grand opening of the Pit Pond Trail on July 27th, ,2019 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The event will include a ribbon cutting, a bouncy castle, face painting, BBQ, and attendees are encouraged to walk the trail while enjoying live music at the new bandstand.

“The trail has been a labour of love for our committee,” stated Maryanne Jackson, Communities in Bloom co-chair. “With the support of numerous levels of government, the business community and countless volunteers we have been able to establish the Pit Pond Trail as a tie between our mining past and a greener more active future for our community.”

The Pit Pond Trail contains links from the downtown core and McGee Street, with three newly created bridges throughout the walking trail. From the second bridge, the entire pond can be viewed. The trail also includes two strategically located lookoffs with memorial benches.
