Cumberland municipal council has approved the second reading of an application to amend the land-use bylaws to change a property near Wentworth from rural resource to recreational residential to permit the construction of a subdivision of recreational cottage lots on the Valley Road.
The subject property is approximately five kilometres west of Wentworth.
The subdivision will be built on a newly built private road on the adjacent property.
Compass Minerals teams up with GOVRC to keep clients safe

Safety is paramount to clients and staff at Springhill’s GOVRC. And now a Cumberland County company has stepped forward with the donation of personal protective equipment in support of the organization that provides life and vocational skills to 22 men and women.
Representatives of Compass Minerals visited the Springhill operation on Thursday, Jan. 19, to drop off an assortment of protective equipment including helmets, safety glasses, work gloves, traffic vests, ear plugs and other items.
Christie-Smith Community Fund to benefit Cumberland County

Since its inception 18 years ago, the Dr. H & Mrs. H.E. Christie Community Foundation has given more than $3 million dollars to numerous organizations in the Amherst area.
Now, with the support of the estate of Michael D. Smith, the Christie-Smith Community Fund will extend its reach across Cumberland County.
Mayor Murray Scott looks back at productive 2022

Cumberland County’s mayor is looking back at a very productive year that saw some major changes within the municipality that will shape its direction into the future.
Murray Scott said the municipality’s biggest accomplishment was the implementation of the Clear the Deck initiative that completed the process that began seven years ago when Springhill and then Parrsboro were amalgamated with the Municipality of Cumberland.
Pugwash's new library nears completion

Construction of Pugwash’s $2.198-million library is approaching the last of many milestones - completion.
“We’re almost there,” project manager Roger MacIsaac said. “I’m really pleased with the progress of the project and I’m really happy with how Iron Maple delivered the product. We hope to have our final electrical inspection done in early January, which will give us substantial completion. When you look around you can see that we’re pretty near 100 percent completed.”
